hiking tips

We would like to recommend 3 lovely countryside walks not from the city centre, to actively promote a healthy relaxation, perhaps coupled with a culinary or cultural highlight in the Zschoner Mühle.

Take the tram lines 1 or 12 to the last stop "Leutewitz", alternatively get off at "Gottfried Keller Straße/ Roquettestraße".
If you choose to get off at the stop "Gottfried Keller Straße" continue with the bus line 92 to it's final stop "Ockerwitz". From the old village square, head straight down into the Zschonergrund, to the Zschoner Mühle.

If you choose to get off in Leutewitz you can use ALITA to directly travel to the mill.

The bus and tram schedules can be found here

Once you have arrived at the mill, there are three different circular routes to choose from.

Recommendation 1:

The shady valley path from the Zschoner Mühle through the so called "Wild Zschone", always following the little stream in the direction of the Schulzenmühle. However just before the Schulzenmühle, take the main path on your left towards Pennrich. Cross the main road and turn into the "Oskar Maune Straße". After about 500 meters you will find yourself at the terminal loop of tram line 7.

Distance: 6km
Time: 1 hour, with a slow gait and breaks 1.5 hours
Difficulty: suitable as a stroll, not suitable for bicycles or prams!

Recommendation 2:

The sunny path with good views on the Elbe valley, even as far as the "Sächsische Schweiz" in ideal conditions.

The trail starts by the large archway to the mill. A small steep path towards Podemus leads you past old vineyards. The "Vorwerk Podemus" and Hotel "De Bücke Dich" tempt to linger. Walk through the village Podemus and follow the road towards Roitzsch/Unkersdorf. At the towns exit turn left onto the path towards the Zschonergrund/Steinbruch. Once you have arrived at the quarry (Steinbruch) you have the choice of turning left back towards the Zschoner Mühle, or right towards the Schulzenmühle.

Distance: 6km or 8 km respectively
Time: 1.5 to 2 hours
Difficulty: medium, partly small and steep paths

Recommendation 3:

Wide valley path towards Brießnitz.

From the Zschoner Mühle head downstream in the direction of the Elbe, along a wide, comfortable path, which is also suitable for bikes or prams. This makes it possible to reach the Elbe Cycle Route!
By the path, towards the city, the Romantikhotel Pattis and the old Zschonergrund Paths are located. Brießnitz offers a variety of public transport. The details can be found on the website: www.dvb.de

Distance: 4 to 5 kilometres
Tme: 45 minutes to 1 hour
Difficulty: easy, stroll
